Disappointed Not Surprised
by Kathy Mancl
Country, Folk
“Disappointed, Not Surprised” is a mid-tempo country-folk anthem of heartbreak and hard-won clarity. Gentle acoustic guitars along with a dobro and steel guitar with understated percussion carry reflective, candid vocals, capturing the sting of betrayal without bitterness. The mood is resilient and resolute, blending sorrow with empowerment, as lyrics confront broken promises and closed doors, ultimately celebrating the strength to let go and move forward.

Kathy Mancl is a powerhouse vocalist whose voice carries the grit of heartland rock and the ache of country truth – equal parts fire and vulnerability. Raised in the heart of Wisconsin, she began performing at age ten, drawn to the storytelling strength of Emmylou Harris and the commanding presence of Linda Ronstadt. Those early influences shaped a sound that blends contemporary country soul with classic rock edge.
Over the years, Kathy has commanded stages across the Midwest, from intimate club venues to large-scale productions and festival platforms. Her debut album, RED HOT LOVER, marks a defining chapter. The title track earned “Rock Song of the Year” at the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Awards, establishing Kathy as a force among the region’s standout rock artists. The self-written single “His Arms, Her Heaven” earned additional WAMI recognition as “Classical, Jazz, New Age Song of the Year,” underscoring not only her commanding vocal presence but her strength as a songwriter capable of crafting deeply resonant, emotionally rich material.
Building on award-winning momentum, Kathy Mancl is expanding her artistic identity through songwriting that explores resilience, emotional truth, and the strength found in self-awareness. Her work balances vulnerability with conviction – pairing commercially resonant hooks with lyrics that reflect lived experience and modern prospective. As she continues to grow her original catalog, Kathy is positioning herself as a songwriter with a clear, distinctive voice in contemporary country/rock/pop.
